Do dental implants last forever?

The idea that an implant is “for life” is comfortable, but incomplete. An implant does not decay, that is true; however, the tissue around it can become diseased.
What affects longevity
The health of your gums and bone, daily hygiene, the way you bite, and habits such as grinding or smoking. Initial planning matters too: a well-positioned implant is easier to clean.
Maintenance really matters
Regular check-ups catch early inflammation around the implant, while it is still reversible. That review is the difference between an implant that lasts years and one that is lost.
What we tell you in consultation
At your assessment we explain what to expect in your specific case, based on your bone, gums and bite. We do not give generic longevity figures because every mouth is different.
